For shirasade, Merry/Pippin

Pippin loves watching Merry sleep.

Perhaps it’s because Merry’s spent most of his 40 years watching over Pippin, keeping him safe from harm.

Now, after everything that stood between them and their return to the Shire, Pippin believes that to lay by Merry’s side and brush the curls from his forehead is the greatest reward he’s received.

Crickhollow is home, until they are separated again. Merry doesn’t believe that will happen, but Pippin does, with all his terribly heavy heart.

For that reason among many, Pippin loves watching Merry sleep—

With the knowledge that one day he will wake alone.
